Schlesinger and Buchbinder, LLP is pleased to announce that on December 2, 2019 the Newton City Council approved re-zoning and a special permit for the Northland Newton Development (NND).  Attorneys Alan Schlesinger and Stephen Buchbinder collaborated as counsel to Northland Investment Corporation for the redevelopment of the 22 acre site on Needham Street Newton and adjacent properties into a 21st century mixed use development of 800 dwelling units, 193,000 square feet of refurbished office building, and 115,000 square feet of retail/commercial space.

In addition to redevelopment of the former Marshall’s Plaza, office, and industrial site, NND will provide 140 affordable housing units, 9 acres of open space, state of the art passive house construction in three buildings, and extensive traffic mitigation, including a free shuttle to Newton Highlands.

NND was approved by a 17-7 supermajority of the City Council after three years of community process, public hearings, and refinements of the program.  The firm is grateful for the opportunity to represent Northland Investment Corporation in this matter and to the many civic and community groups which have come together to support the project.
